interviewing my mom

I came home this weekend and wanted to ask my mom some questions about what she likes in music and how she heard it and just wanted to have a genuine heart to heart with my mom about the rhythm that keeps her heart going and this is what happened. I knew coming into this she liked hip hop and rnb but that's also what she grew up listening to and still does to this day. She told me when she was growing up her dad had her listen to Motown and other 60's groups and performers so she was always into rnb and hip hop which i found very cool that she liked most of the Motown artists. When this happened i asked her if this has changed at all with age what she listens to and if she is willing to listen to other genres and she told me yes! she loves the new songs of today because of the lyrics and the meaning behind them. She told me she loves a song that tells a story. When she grew up she had to use record players and cassette tapes which i have never used but my mom was really into talking about how they are as a whole she loved the cassettes the most I think all you had to do was pop them in the car and tunes played or in your portable player. She got sentimental about a artist that was called "BJ Thomas" she told me it brings a smile to her face because she has a found memory of her dad singing it to her when she was little and my grandpa her dad passed away at the age of around 40. Another song she loved is you are my sunshine because my great grandma would sing it to her and to me and my cousins, my great grandma was an amazing person and everyone aspired to be like her so this song you are my sunshine is her favorite song and even has it tattooed on her because of my great grandma. I asked her if she listens in free time she has and she told me no she really only listens to music when she is in the car which is how I am because I don't have any headphones. As said earlier she really loves music with meaning so if the song has music she will love it no matter what. She also went into a rant about detail of how she does not like music on the radio because the radio is playing "trashy" music and things that influence kids in a bad way so she hates the radio with some more untasteful music. I loved the convo I had with my mom and i always love when she goes into details about things because she gets passionate.

  1. Hi Jackson! I really loved hearing about the interview that you had with your mom! It is amazing to see how music was used as kind of her outlet and how she was able to relate to her dad and rest of her family through music. I like that she really likes music that has meaning behind it because that is kind of like me too. Thank you again!

  2. I love that your mom grew up listening to Motown. I love them. I was shocked when your mom said she doesn't listen to music in her free time, only when she's in the car. I listen to music every chance I get. I enjoyed reading about your interview with your mom.

  3. My mom also used record players and cassette tapes when she was a kid. And I absolutely love the fact that your mom also loves to listen to songs that tell a story as some of my favorite songs are just stories in song form.
