Native Americans with music

 Water drum?

The native Americans had a drum was the water drum and it worked by having a deer hide/skin over the top of a clay pot or hollowed log and with it they can play the drum with just that but to change the pitch and tone of the drum they would add water or take water out. I like how they play the drum in the video below because the people playing it before they even play it, I can’t tell what they put on the drum it may have been water or dirt or even but they rubbed it on the head of the drum, then they all played the one drum.

Native American flute

The native American people had many different instruments and the flutes they made where amazing. They made them out of straight up clay, and wood cane. These flutes where not easy to make they somehow took clay and that wood cane and made a playable instrument by making the air blown into it split of a wood cane reed. I just find it very interesting that they had people with enough skill to make these instruments and then people talented enough to play it without breaking the clay pieces all the time.

Pow Wow

A Pow Wow is when a bunch of native Americans meet up and have a gathering celebrating their culture and to reconnect with their old friends. These pow wows are kind of like the family cookout but about 100 times better with music dancing screaming singing anything you want it is there at a Pow wow. The most important people at these pow wows are the singers because without them there would be no dancers and no music players or anything, the way the native Americans of today still learn how to sing dance or even play the music is that they are taught by their parents or people at the pow wow they meet. My favorite thing at these pow wows is the dancing competitions because it shows of flamboyant these tribes are and how cool it is, if I could dance at one I would but I have not the training or the time to make the get up and learn the dances. To the native American people of today that live in modern times I am pretty sure these pow wows are extremely special to them because this is one of the last things, they have that is as close as they can get to their native roots.

    Okay I had no idea that water drums existed. That's super cool (or maybe that's just me being obsessed with water). About the flutes: I also am not skilled enough to create a flute from clay. That's wickedly impressive, but it makes sense considering the supplies they had access to (or lack of access to), especially on reservations. The clay instruments must have been incredibly fragile.

    I looked at the flutes too! I looked more at the cultural aspects than the actual making of the flutes though. I didn't even think about how hard it would be to make them! I think the way the flute is made is probably why there is a difference between the Native American Indigenous Flute and the Native American flute :) I definitely recommend looking into that stuff because it was really cool to read about!

    I also looked at the flutes as well! Did you know that in the early times of the Native Americans making instruments that they made flutes out of bones? And that some of the oldest flutes found have been traced back to 200 to 900 CE? It's super cool to think how they make their flutes compared to the flutes we are used to seeing in orchestra! I think it's interesting to read about it and I recommend looking into it because it's so cool.

    Hey Jackson, I enjoyed watching the clip about the Native American water drum. I found it interesting that the drum’s pitch can change depending on the amount water placed inside. Secondly, although I knew that Native American flutes were made using different materials, I did not know that they created flutes using clay. I found this to be surprising as I imagine they would have to take great care of these flutes so they would not break. Lastly, I also found the Powwows to be interesting way to share the cultures of different Native American tribes. I believe the dance competitions that takes place at these Powwows are an appropriate and useful way for these songs and dances to be shared with others. I also believe the Powwow competitions are a way to encourage people of all ages and genders to learn these Native American songs and dances which helps keep their culture alive for future generations.

    I found it fascinating to be able to learn more about the water drum. It is such a unique instrument that can continually be adapted which is why I think the Native Americans love it and I find it very interesting too! I did not know that is how they created the first Native American flute! It is fascinating to think about how they just developed a new instrument just by using natural resources.

    I've never heard of water drums, but I'm very interested now. It seems like a very unique instrument. It's cool how the amount of water is the determining factor for the sound that is produced. I learned a lot from this blog, especially more information on the flute.

my background music

      I listen to most types of music but the type of music I like I do not really know the genre of what it is called but its real deep with groups like suicide boys, cold hart, lil Tracy, lil peep, wicca phase springs eternal, and lil darkie (not his scream rap) just chill music, its mostly sad in general.     The song i have been getting into recently is two songs the first one is anxiety by lil darkie and its a rap that is just a vibe, its different from what he normally makes of him screaming into a microphone but to each their own. The song starts off with a weird skit with him on the radio talking to people and they are almost not prepared for the "boss" to come back so soon.  An example of music that has stuck with me for  while and that never really left has to be old lil peep and what he did with the guitars and had a flow with it and no one else can really replicate it. The music of asian cultures (Thailand)

 For the first Asian culture I am going to chose is Thailand, i found a piece of their traditional music on YouTube but they incorporate some other cultures into this piece if you check the description The instrument being played down below is called the Seung and it is a traditional instrument of Thailand and it kind of is like a guitar in how it is played and how it looks. To play it you need metal rings on all your finger except for the one doing the cords and your thumbs, here is the video of them playing. Most of Thailand's music is string dominate because they like the sound of it and its deep within their culture and its been that way for a long time, the other instrument i found in this culture is called the Khim and its my favorite from here it is a mix of a drum and string instrument, the player sits down and hits the strings with two sticks and it plays notes here is a quick video of someone playing the song.
